Well Visits Q&A
What are well visits?
Well visits are routine appointments to prevent health problems before they occur or before they progress into significant health concerns. Dr. Lyons is committed to helping you lead a healthier and happier life through preventive care.
Instead of waiting until you have symptoms to call the doctor, well visits are scheduled annually to ensure you’re still in good health and to catch any health problems during the early stages when they are easier to treat.
Dr. Lyons offers well visits both in the office and through telehealth. If for some reason you’re unable to visit the office, you can still keep up with your well visits by scheduling telehealth appointments.
Are well visits the same as an annual physical?
Well visits are similar to traditional annual physicals, as they both aim to find health problems before they occur. But a well visit goes beyond a physical exam. Well visits with Dr. Lyons aim to help you understand what lifestyle practices are working for you and what doesn’t to best support your continued health and well-being.
What happens at well visits?
Well visits may include:
- Physical exam
- Checking vital signs
- Checking weight and height to determine BMI
- Reviewing personal and family medical history
- Discussing lifestyle choices
- Health screenings
Dr. Lyons may ask about your diet, physical activity, stress level, and drug or alcohol use to get a complete picture of your health. He also helps establish a personalized plan with recommendations for lifestyle changes to improve your overall health and wellness to ensure you are reaching your full potential.
What health screenings do I need at my well visit?
Your preventive care schedule and health screenings may vary depending on your health and personal risk factors. Dr. Lyons may provide additional health screenings if you have risk factors like weight challenges, chronic disease, or a family history of disease.
Screenings also vary depending on your gender and age. Common health screenings during well visits include cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, osteoporosis, mammograms, pap tests, and STDs.
